Answer 2
What are the main topics?

Please distinguish between sessions and conference topics.
The sessions (scientific contest) covers all medical fields. This means you can send in your abstract coming from all fields of medical research.
The conference topics include key-note lectures, workshops, panel discussions etc. The topic of this year is "Head forward". For further information have a look at this years'

Answer 3
What does "active and passive participants" mean?

Active Participation
Your main task at the 19th ESC is the presentation of your scientific work either oral or with a poster in front of the audience. By presenting your scientific work in sessions with other active participants, you can qualify yourself as the winner of your session. Out of all the session winners, a scientific jury will choose the best ones who will be awarded during our Closing Ceremony at the end of the conference. Furthermore you can of course participate in any other session or workshop and in any special or social event. Any active applicant who is not selected by our scientific jury is very welcome to participate passively.

Passive Participation
Passive participants will have the opportunity to meet professors and to take part in our programme (for example in workshops, in social programme etc.), but will not be allowed to hold a presentation during the sessions. Moreover, they can visit any session, workshop or lecture they want to. As an active participant you take part in the scientific contest by presenting a poster or doing an oral presentation. As a passive you are allowed to attend all sessions, workshops and lectures. However, you are not able to take part in the scientific contest or to win a prize.

For more detail, please take a look at our definitions.

Answer 13
Can I submit a graphic within my abstract?

Sorry, you actually cannot submit graphics together with your abstract. As our reviewers can estimate from what you write how good the described work may be, it is not necessary to send an extraordinary well designed paper. The only thing we want to know a little more in detail is what your work is about and what your methods and results are.
